Road Repairs - Approved for 2017/18
Please find attached the list of the approved 2017/18 Capital Highway Schemes.
Now that the list has been approved the Area Office will progress with the detailed costing for each scheme. Please note that this can sometimes results in the removal of a scheme if the funding is not appropriate for the amount of maintenance required and extra monies cannot be allocated.To feed in to next year’s highways communications plan I would very much appreciate any details regarding local events to ensure that we can co-ordinate the 2017/18 programme accordingly.
Please note the column ‘Type’ on the spread sheet, I have provided below a brief explanation;
SD – Surface Dressing – Many of these locations will have or will be receiving some form of preparation treatment this year, this is what we refer to as PSDP (Pre-surface Dressing Patching) which includes realignment of drains and/or kerbs and/or patching. There is often an influx of queries relating to surface dressing when the programme is in progress from members of the public asking why the road is being resurfaced again, this is not the case the previous works were to bring the carriageway to an appropriate standard ready to surface dress. This type of maintenance prolongs the lifespan of a road which requires little structural repair.
R&R – Reconstruct and Resurface of a carriageway. Substantial works require to the structure and surface. Sometimes it is not apparent that a road is in disrepair as there are no physical defects on the surface, structural damage is detected by the various machine inspections carried out routinely. R&R works are constrained by the allocation of funding which can sometimes lead to sections of the highway not been included in the final scheme, where this is the case the sections still requiring maintenance will be assessed for future funding allocation.
FW R&R – Reconstruct and Resurface of a footway. Substantial works required to the structure and surface. As above the extent of the works will be constrained by the allocation of funding.
SS – Footway Slurry Seal treatment also known as Micro-texturing - This type of maintenance prolongs the lifespan of a footway which requires little structural repair.
Cattle grid – includes maintenance and/ or replacement (locations TBC)
Special – This can include landslip works, retaining walls, cobbling
Patch – This is the allocation for the Categories of road in preparation for Surface Dressing schemes in 18/19 (locations TBC)
FW Patch - This is the allocation for footway patching (locations TBC)
